GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
***PART-TIME*** Performs a wide variety of police related duties such as parking enforcement, abandoned vehicles reports in those instances where a Police Officer is not required. Enforces city code and ordinances relative to dogs, trash, weeds, abandoned vehicles and debris, etc. Answers citizen complaints, and may input and retrieve information from computer terminals; performs related duties as assigned.
 
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possession of a valid State of Michigan Drivers License.
2. Ability to read and interpret basic pertinent Federal, State and Local laws and Ordinances, codes and regulations.
3. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, the general principles, practices, methods and techniques of inspection and investigation.
4. Ability to read maps.
5. Ability to effectively operate and communicate via two way radio and/or other communication equipment.
6. Ability to operate vehicles safely.
7. Knowledge of basic math.
8. Ability to effectively comply with oral and written directions and orders issued within a paramilitary command structure.
9. Ability to maintain accurate records.
10. Ability to speak and write effectively.
11. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public.
12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, employees and the general public.
13. Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not needlessly endanger the safety to one's self, equipment and others.

GENERAL

 

Flint is a dynamic city of over 120,000 population with unsurpassed educational facilities.  A junior college and a branch of the University of Michigan are centrally located in the city. The City of Flint employs approximately 1000 full and part-time employees under the civil service system.
