The residents of the 7th Ward
envision a community where neighborhoods thrive, and there is
mutual respect among residents. In this community families can
raise children and residents can walk the streets and feel safe.
With adequate code enforcement, cultural diversity, great
schools, and a strong public safety presence, residents believe
the community will be attractive to new residents.

The majority of the
residents in the 7th ward cited the Brennan Community Center as
one of the most valued assets in their community. Many said they
enjoy the senior activities it provides as well as the meeting
space it offers for community groups and block clubs. |

Flint's Cultural
center was another place highly valued by 7th ward residents for
its empowerment of the youth in theater, arts and humanities ; |
 |
The closed Stewart
Elementary school was viewed as an opportunity to offer GED
certification classes, as well as after school programs for
neighborhood youth. Central and Whittier schools, both recently
closed, were seen as opportunities for college dorms, or a good
location for another school; |
 |
Christ The King, Mt.
Olive, and Grace Emmanuel are all churches in the 7th ward that
residents spoke highly of for their programs for the youth and
the assistance they provide (holiday baskets) for families in
need; |
 |
At least one resident
of the 7th ward sees an opportunity for a police mini-station
near the Howard Estates housing complex as a way to reduce crime
in the area |

comprise the Downtown area. The top 4 priorities are listed
