Know Your Rights and Responsibilities

• Keep VAP and the Flint City Attorney updated as to your current address and telephone number, by submitting all address changes in writing.
   

• The VAP will send you notice of all Court proceeding dates concerning your case.
   

• The Flint City Attorney will offer you the opportunity to share your views regarding the disposition of the case before finalizing a plea agreement.
   

• You have the right to attend all Court proceedings on your case.
   

• A separate waiting area will be provided for you when you attend Court proceedings, if requested.
   

• You have the right to make a verbal and./or written impact statement at the time of the Defendant's sentencing.
   

• You have the right to restitution when appropriate.
   

• You may be entitled to compensation through the State of Michigan's Victims Compensation Fund.
  The Flint City Attorney will notify you if your case is dismissed.
   

• Contact the VAP to obtain further information about all of these rights and how you may effectively participate in the criminal court processing of your case.
   

• Ask about your rights following the final disposition of your case.
