What
Can the VAP Do?
We can offer victims referrals for counseling
support groups, shelter of safe houses, substance abuse programs and
legal services.
The VAP can assist victims in obtaining "no contract" orders, as a
condition of bond and/or as part of a plea in criminal cases and
advocate for restitution when appropriate.
Our staff can make your views and feelings known to the Judge, the Flint
City Attorney and the Probation Officer.
The VAP can assist victims in filling out a Victim Impact Statement.
This Statement communicates your views and feelings as to the physical
and/or emotional harm suffered, as well as any property damage or other
economic loss caused by the Defendent.
You may also make specific sentencing recommendations. The Flint City
Attorney, the Judge and any other applicable Court personnel processing
your case will consider all of this critical information.
The VAP encourages victims to be present and to speak at the time of
sentencing. Whenever possible, an advocate will be available to
accompany victims on Court dates.
