In Memoriam

To those police officers who
gave their lives unselfishly in
the performance of their duties.

We remember
them all.

Crime Stoppers works to obtain information that will provide the police with investigative sources that will lead to arrests in unsolved investigations. Crime Stoppers is able to obtain information that is generally unavailable to police by guaranteeing informants anonymity and paying rewards of up to $1,000.00 for information leading to an arrest. Information is obtained through a highly publicized statewide (800) telephone number, (1-800) 422-5245 (JAIL).

Each week, Crime Stoppers publicizes a "Crime of the Week" - a serious unsolved felony, and solicits information on that crime or on any other criminal activity with the assistance of television, radio, and various newspapers throughout the state. Crime Stoppers

Crime Stoppers information has led to a myriad of arrests, and the clearance of numerous felony investigations, along with the recovery of millions of dollars in property and narcotics.

The informant is given a code number. The caller is known only by that number and from the outset, through the payment of the reward every effort possible is made to guarantee the anonymity to the caller.

The information that is received is provided to the investigating agency, which includes all local, county and state police jurisdictions, as well as Child Protective Services, State and local Fire Marshalls' offices, the FBI, the IRS, the Welfare Fraud Unit, and jurisdictions in surrounding states.

Once all cases are approved and advertised by the media as the "Crime of the Week," the information is then obtained from anonymous callers who identify the perpetrator(s) through the Crime Stoppers (800) 422-5245 telephone number.
This information is immediately sent to the appropriate investigative agencies who may ultimately make an arrest. At this point, once the arrests are made, the Board of Directors will decide the amount of the reward the caller will receive, based on a point system, criteria and severity of the crime. This will allow the Executive Director to make the payment to the caller.
Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization and a separate entity from law enforcement, but works collectively with all law enforcements, communities, and news media, to abate unsolved crimes.
