CITY HOSTS “FIFTEEN DAYS OF FUN” FOR FLINT YOUTH - THREE-WEEK PROGRAM KICKS OFF AUGUST 3
FLINT, Mich. – The City of Flint Parks and Recreation Department will offer free recreational day camps for local youth ages 6-12 from August 3 through 21. Known as “Fifteen Days of Fun,” the program, offered Mondays through Fridays, will provide a variety of athletic and cultural activities for up to 700 children at different locations around the city.

The program – made possible with a four-month, $139,050 grant from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in Flint – is designed to provide a nutrition, fitness and wellness summer camp for elementary school students in the Flint community.

Joe Eufinger, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, notes that the mid-August timeframe will also help add to the availability of summer programming for area youth after many other programs have ended.

“Our goal was to create a summer program for students that would be fun with a strong fitness component focused on good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle,” Eufinger said. “We’re also incorporating cultural enrichment activities for a well-rounded program.

“Fifteen Days of Fun” will include daily field trips to one of seven program sites – Atwood Stadium/Children’s Museum, Berston Field House, Haskell Community Center, Pierce Park, Kearsley Park, Northern High School and the Cultural Center.

Each site will feature two to three activities. Campers will also take part in a fitness training program each day, with support provided by the Crim Fitness Foundation.

Children will be picked up at various locations around the city by Flint Community School buses and transported to the program sites. Breakfast and lunch will be served daily.

The daily schedule will consist of the following:
