The City of Flint is pleased with the appointment of Ed Kurtz as the Emergency Financial Manager by the State of Michigan. Kurtz served as the Emergency Financial Manager (EFM) for the City in 2002. He brings thorough knowledge of Public Act 72 having served in that capacity for over two years.

Kurtz has a long history in Flint as President of Baker College and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for that institution. He also recently chaired the legacy committee for the City of Flint in conjunction with Emergency Manager Mike Brown. Brown praised the appointment of Mr. Kurtz, stating, "Ed is knowledgeable about city government, has the respect of the business community and an excellent working relationship with many of the current management and staff at city hall."

In his new role as EFM, Kurtz will appoint Mike Brown as City Administrator during city’s transition from Public Act 4 to Public Act 72. “This will keep the current management team in place and offer stability to city government as it continues to rebuild and restructure itself financially,” said Kurtz.

The City of Flint will continue working to stabilize its finances and improve services for its citizens especially in the area of public safety and infrastructure. These goals are reflected in the current business and operating plans on file with the state of Michigan.

Kurtz will meet with the staff at city hall on Monday, August 13 at the regularly scheduled management team meeting.
