|EMERGENCY MANAGER ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF BARNETT JONES AS PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATOR|
Flint, Michigan—April 20, 2012— Emergency Manager Mike Brown announced today the|
appointment of Barnett Jones as Public Safety Administrator for the City of Flint. Mr.Jones is a contractual employee. He will be paid $135,000 with limited benefits and no health care. Mr. Jones will be provided the equipment necessary to perform his duties as both a police officer and firefighter.
Mr. Jones has over 37 years of law enforcement experience and is also a certified firefighter. He has served as Safety Services Administrator of Ann Arbor overseeing police, fire and emergency management services. He has also served with the Inkster Police Department, both the Oakland and Wayne County Sheriffs Departments, and has served as Chief of Police in both the cities of Sterling Heights and Ann Arbor.
Mr. Jones has extensive experience in police holding facility management,
organizational behavior, community involvement, law enforcement technologies,
strategic and tactical planning, coordination with federal law enforcement, training program development and execution as well as cross-cultural communication and community and public relations. He has worked with various law enforcement agencies in developing strategies of implementation in these areas. These skills will be a great asset to the City of Flint.
Mr. Jones is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has worked and trained in the Dignitary Protection Program of the U.S. Secret Service. In addition to public safety, Mr. Jones has worked as an Adjunct Professor for Eastern Michigan University and is a Pastor in the Outreach Ministry of the Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills.
Mr. Jones holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Henry Ford Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies/Human Resources from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, a Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies-Technology from Eastern Michigan University and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Staff and Command.
