Genesee County, Michigan – March 10, 2010 - The Genesee County Complete Count Committee is sponsoring a “College Towns Census Video Contest” to help create awareness among college students about the 2010 Census process. Students from Flint’s four colleges and universities: University of Michigan Flint; Kettering University; Mott Community College; and Baker College of Flint are encouraged to produce a 60 second video about how the 2010 Census will impact them and their community.
The Census 2010 video ads are intended to promote participation in the census, especially among students. The primary goal of the ads is to clarify that university students who live away from home in a dorm or rented apartment are responsible for filling out and mailing in their own Census 2010 form.
“College students are counted where they are living on Census day. There are thousands of college students in this community and we need them to understand how important it is for this community that they are completely counted in the 2010 Census,” said Lawrence Moon, Co-Chair Genesee County Complete Count Committee.
Video entries will be shown and judged during the Genesee County Complete Count Committee College Town Census Awareness Kick-off on March 21, 2010 at the Riverfront Residence Inn in Downtown Flint. The top 4 video entries will receive cash prize awards. Cash awards range from $1,000 to $300.00. The videos will be uploaded to YouTube to reach a broader audience.
Students should submit their contest video to the Genesee County Complete Count Committee website: www.gencocensus.com/video . Deadline for video submission is March 18, 2010 at 11:59 PM EST.
